Lengpui Airport Issue Closed, No More Negotiations with IAF: Lalduhoma

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the state’s decision to end negotiations with the Indian Air Force (IAF) regarding the transfer of Lengpui Airport, opting instead to proceed with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This decision was influenced by significant opposition from NGOs and political parties favoring AAI. Concerns about potential privatization led the government to insist on a clause for prior approval before any outsourcing, which AAI resisted. A formal valuation of the airport’s infrastructure is in progress, with AAI expected to compensate the Mizoram government for its assets. Despite some disagreements, the Chief Minister is hopeful for a final agreement with AAI soon.
