Legendary Odia singer Prafulla Kar dies

Legendary Oriya singer and music director Prafulla Kar died at his residence here at the age of 83 due to old age ailments.

After dinner on Sunday night, he complained of chest pain and died soon after at his Satya Nagar home.

The last rites will be performed with full state honors at the crematorium by Heaven in Puri on Monday.

Prafulla Kar received the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2015 and was honored with the Jayadeva Award in 2004. He received the National Film Award six times, eight times in a row.

Kar holds the distinction of being a musician who recorded Odia Bhagwat and Odia Chanda, a rare collection of traditional Odia songs. His devotional music album ‘Prabhukoop’ has sold more than 10 lakh cassettes. His composition ‘Geet Govindam’s Collection’ was also a big hit.
