Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Tawang promotes organic farming

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, in partnership with ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM), organized a capacity building and input distribution program as part of a significant effort to support organic farming and sustainable agriculture. Aiming to introduce new agriculture technologies and lessen reliance on chemical fertilizers, the event was attended by 150 farmers, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), and officials from related departments.

In his speech, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Toli Bam emphasized the importance of new technology and appropriate crop varieties to increase regional productivity. In order to meet the demands of the Army and paramilitary forces and secure better market opportunities, he also urged farmers to increase their output of vegetables, including unusual species. While NBAIM scientist Dr. Anchal K. Srivastava led a session on the advantages of organic farming and encouraged farmers to embrace vermicomposting as a revenue-generating endeavor, senior scientists and head of KVK Tawang Dr. A N. Tripathi emphasized the significance of sustainable agricultural methods.

To teach farmers about soil enrichment and sustainable waste management, a practical vermicomposting training session was held. Farmers were given vegetable seeds, vermibeds, sprayers, and polythene sheeting for polyhouses to aid in agricultural operations. An interactive session where farmers shared their experiences and specialists provided insights to improve agricultural sustainability and productivity in the area marked the event’s conclusion.
