K. Vanlalvena urges Centre to expedite NIT Mizoram campus development

Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena raised concerns in Parliament over the delayed infrastructure development of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram, urging the Centre to expedite the construction of its permanent campus.

Established in 2009 under the Government of India’s expansion of technical institutions, NIT Mizoram still lacks a permanent campus and continues to operate from multiple temporary locations in Durtlang, Chaltlang, and Tanhril. Addressing the Parliament Budget session, Vanlalvena stressed that the campus construction at Lengpui remains stalled due to land classification issues, as the Forest Department designated the site as part of the Riverine Reserved Forest.

While acknowledging the Union Minister for Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, for reducing Forest Department fees, Vanlalvena urged the central government to waive all penalties, citing Mizoram’s financial limitations.
