An alleged jihadist with links to Bangladesh-based terror outfit Ansarul Islam has been arrested from Assam’s Morigaon district where he runs a madrassa.
Morigaon Superintendent of Police Aparna Notarjan said that on Wednesday, the police raided the madrasa of Sohria village under Moirabari police station and arrested Mustafa.
It is alleged that Mustafa was involved in various financial transactions of terrorist organizations and anti-national activities. The investigation also revealed that he had sheltered a foreign ‘wanted person’ in the madrasa.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said in Guwahati that the madrasa is a private one and has been closed. All madrasas of government are shuted in Assam.
Sarma directed the Morigaon District Commissioner to ensure regular admission of madrasa students in government schools.
There are reports of Ansarul Islam militants being active in the state and efforts are on to nab them, The Chief Minister said.
