A Patna High Court judge on Friday pulled up a senior IAS officer for ‘inappropriate’ attire while appearing in his court. As the officer struggled to explain to the court that he was unaware of any dress code, the judge scolded him about whether he thought he had come to a movie theater.
The incident, a video of which is going viral on social media, is in the court of Justice PB Bajanthri. The officer facing the list of questions is Anand Kishore who is the principal secretary for housing and urban development in the Bihar government. He is also considered to be very close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
In the viral video clip, the judge can be seen scolding him for more than two minutes as he confirms to the hearing wearing a white shirt with the collar unbuttoned and no blazer. The judge took issue with the conspicuous casual attire and requested Mr. Kishore if he did not join the Civil Career Coaching Institute in Mussoorie.
As the officer struggled to find words, usually just standing there listening to the judge, Justice Bajanthri, visibly flustered, asked, “Do you think this is a movie hall?”
“You don’t know what to wear to court?” He also pleaded with him, when the officer appeared confused and surrounded by lawyers.
“At least that means the coat, and the collar should not be open,” the judge said.
