IPRS highlights the significance of copyright, royalties, and creator rights at the Asia Music Summit

The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) is set to mark its presence at the Asia Music Summit, scheduled from the 1st to the 3rd of February in Kohima. This initiative aims to enlighten and empower musicians from the region, shedding light on crucial aspects of the music business covering copyright, royalties, and the role of music copyright societies in safeguarding creators’ rights.

Music copyright societies, like IPRS, safeguard creators’ rights and ensure fair compensation. They help navigate the music industry and collect and distribute royalties on behalf of members. IPRS, a government-authorized society, collects and distributes royalties, transforming creative endeavors into sustainable livelihoods.

Understanding royalties is crucial for artists to maximize earnings and foster a thriving music-creator economy. As part of the Asia Music Summit, IPRS is hosting a workshop to demystify music copyright, explain IPRS’ role, manage rights as creators, and guide participants in maximizing their earnings. Mr. Rakesh Nigam, CEO of The Indian Performing Right Society Limited said, “Through strategic collaborations and extensive outreach, our goal is to reach every artist, transcending geographical boundaries, and making sure they are well-versed about the opportunities and protections that await them in the rapidly evolving music industry.”
