Pyre, a Tamil novel by Indian author Perumal Murugan, is on the 2023 International Booker Prize shortlist.
The International Booker Prize 2023 longlist, which was revealed by the Booker Prize Foundation here on Tuesday, includes 13 books from Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America, including the Tamil novel “Pyre” by Indian author Perumal Murugan.
Murugan, 56, becomes the first author from Tamil to appear on the renowned list with his 2016 book “Pyre,” which was translated from Tamil by Aniruddhan Vasudevan. A story of dread foreboding is set in motion in “Pyre” by an inter caste couple who elope.
