India on Wednesday test-fired the Agni-3 intermediate-range ballistic missile from Odisha’s APJ Abdul Kalam Island.
“India carried out a successful training launch of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-3 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha on November 23, 2022. The successful test was part of routine user training launches carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command. The launch was carried out for a predetermined range and validated all operational parameters of the system”, the ministry of defense said in a statement.
Agni-3 is the third entrant in the Agni missile series and was first test-fired on July 9, 2006. But it developed a technical problem and fell into the sea off Odisha coast without hitting the target The missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and hitting targets 3,500 km away.
The Agni-3 missile was successfully test-fired on its second flight in 2007, followed by its third launch in 2008.
This comes a month after India successfully test-fired its indigenous new-generation medium-range ballistic missile Agni Prime off the coast of Odisha.
The missile has a strike range of 1,000 km to 2,000 km, according to the Defense Research Development Organization.
The missile was last test-fired from the same base on December 18 last year, which was also successful.
