IndiaSkills 2024 reports that over 170 women are actively participating in male-dominated trades

IndiaSkills Competition 2024, currently underway at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, has emerged as a platform for women to shatter stereotypes in traditionally male-dominated trades. With over 170 women participants showcasing their skills alongside their male counterparts, the event is a testament to the evolving landscape of vocational training in India.

This year’s competition, which runs from May 15th to 19th, has attracted over 900 candidates from across 30 states and Union Territories, competing in 61 skills under the mentorship of 400+ industry experts. Notably, women are making their mark in sectors like Logistics & Freight Forwarding, Web Technologies, Fashion Technology, and more.Kirteeparna Sadangi, a participant from Odisha, drew inspiration from past competitors, expressing her determination to represent India on the global stage. “If I get the chance to jet off to France, I am determined to paint our tricolour proud on the global stage,” she remarked.

In addition to traditional trades, new-age skills like Autonomous Mobile Robotics and Cloud Computing are gaining traction, reflecting India’s push towards innovation and technological advancement. Winners of IndiaSkills 2024 will undergo rigorous training to compete in the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, later this year.The event, organized by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), aims to align vocational training with international standards. Through initiatives like Qrencia, participants can creditize their learning outcomes, paving the way for rewarding careers in their chosen fields.
