Indian consumers are excited and eager to shop online during this festive season, according to a study by Nielsen Media India on behalf of Amazon India. The study found that 81% of consumers have a strong sentiment and intent to shop online, 78% trust online shopping, and 50% intend to increase their online spending compared to last year.Consumers expect a wide selection of products, unmatched value with competitive pricing, and the convenience of easy returns and exchanges. Amazon.in is the go-to online shopping destination for 68% of consumers, and is the most trusted and loved online brand for festive shopping.
Key findings of the study include: (i) 87% of consumers in metros and 86% in Tier-2 cities prefer to shop online this festive season. (ii) 77% of consumers say that online festive shopping events enhance convenience with options like faster delivery. (iii) More than 70% of consumers wait for online festive shopping events to purchase electronic items, driven by attractive offers and new brand launches. (iv) Over 75% of consumers are excited about attractive bank offers and No-Cost EMIs.
(v) Amazon.in is the most preferred online brand for consumers to shop this festive season across categories such as Large Appliances, Mobiles/Smartphones, Consumer Electronics, Apparel, Footwear & Fashion Accessories, Beauty, and Grocery. (vi) 76% of Indian consumers purchase luxury and authentic beauty brands during online festive shopping events. (vii) 41% of consumers prefer Amazon.in for all their Grocery needs. (viii) Digital payment methods are on the rise, with 42% of respondents choosing UPI for online festive shopping.The study highlights the growing popularity of online shopping in India, and the increasing trust that consumers have in online retailers. Amazon.in is the clear leader in the online shopping market, and is the preferred destination for consumers across a wide range of categories.
