India looking at new markets for edible oil

India was looking at tapping new markets for edible oil imports following the standoff between Ukraine and Russia, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday.

According to her, due to the conflict, the country is facing various obstacles in the import of edible oil.

“Everyone knows there is a war between Russia and Ukraine. There are various obstacles to importing oil. You know we cannot import edible oil, we were getting sunflower oil. Now, we don’t,” she said at an event here.

“Now, we are importing edible oil from different markets and also looking at new markets,” she said.

Due to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, an opportunity has also arisen for industrialists to tap those markets for exports from India, Sitharaman said.
