Indeed, a global hiring platform, has reported a 38% increase in job searches for “nurse” jobs from India seeking international opportunities over the past three years, from October 2020 to 2023. This indicates a growing interest in global nursing roles.The McKinsey Frontline Workforce Survey highlights nurses’ commitment to healthcare, but early retirements, limited new entrants, and career shifts contribute to a global nursing shortage.
The exacerbated talent scarcity, intensified by pandemic-induced burnout, leads to extended work hours due to limited staffing. Many nurses are turning to gig work for flexibility instead of direct hospital employment. India’s interest in pursuing “Nurse” roles abroad has seen a steady annual increase, with a 4% increase from 2020-21, a 9% surge from 2021-22, and a 22% rise from 2022-23. Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, remarked, “By embracing global opportunities, nurses not only alleviate staffing shortages but also enrich their professional journey.”
States are organizing job fairs to attract nursing enthusiasts, offering global opportunities. Indian nurses earn an average of 2.6 lakhs per annum, and countries like Germany collaborate to encourage overseas education. The US, UK, Canada, and Japan also invite Indian nurses.
