Deputy Commissioner P N Thungon chaired the Siang district’s District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the state of current road safety initiatives and develop new strategies for lowering traffic accidents in the district. According to Section 215 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the meeting was attended by representatives from the public works department, transportation department, police, health, education, and urban development, among other important stakeholders. This clause requires the establishment of district-level committees to support and counsel the state government on policy development, enforcement coordination, and road safety promotion.
The identification and correction of accident-prone areas, the necessity of appropriate road markings and signage, the bolstering of traffic enforcement and patrolling, and the significance of frequent road safety awareness campaigns were among the important topics covered during the conference. The DC emphasised the need for improved departmental collaboration and prompt road safety audits. Thungon instructed concerned departments to provide quarterly action-taken reports, highlighting a proactive and integrated approach. As part of the district’s larger outreach effort, he pushed the education department to step up student awareness initiatives about road safety.
