The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) has welcomed the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025, calling it a transformative step for India’s cooperative sector. The bill, passed by the LokSabha on March 26, paves the way for the country’s first cooperative university, focusing on rural economic growth, self-employment, and entrepreneurship.
Union Minister of Cooperation and Home Affairs Amit Shah highlighted that the university will set new benchmarks in cooperative leadership, innovation, and research, aligning with the government’s ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ vision. IFFCO Managing Director Dr. Udai Shanker Awasthi praised the initiative, stating it will revolutionize the cooperative sector, benefiting farmers and rural communities. Chairman Dileep Sanghani emphasized that the move would ensure a skilled workforce for cooperatives, enabling them to expand from local to global markets.
With 8 lakh professionals expected to be trained annually, the university will become a center for cooperative education and research. International Cooperative Alliance Director General Jeroen Douglas hailed the move as a milestone for the global cooperative movement, strengthening India’s leadership in the sector.
