ICAR’s Fodder Initiative Aims to Strengthen Mithun Farming in Arunachal Pradesh

In an important move to support sustainable mithun raising in Arunachal Pradesh, the ICAR-Arunachal Pradesh Center in Leparada district has helped mithun farmers in Siang district by supplying Hybrid Napier root slips for the construction of unique fodder plots. The support was given by the Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmer Federation (JMMFF) with the intention of creating reliable and superior green fodder resources for mithuns. The initiative also seeks to encourage the state’s farmers to gradually adopt semi-intensive mithun growing methods.Mithun conservation and scientific management are crucial for both cultural preservation and livelihood security since Arunachal Pradesh has the biggest mithun population in the country. Officials predict that high-yielding fodder crops like Hybrid Napier will increase total output, enhance animal nutrition, and lessen the burden on forest grazing areas.JMMFF chairman Tadang Tamut hailed the initiative on behalf of the federation and Siang district mithun farmers. He also praised ICAR-AP Center Head Dr. Doni Jini and senior scientist Joken Bam for their continued support and encouragement in promoting sustainable mithun husbandry in the region.
