A massive landslide has been reported near the Nalda village of the Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh. While no loss of life and property has been reported so far, however there is looming threat to the human settlement downstream, as a natural dam has been created due to the collection of water. Amid fears of flooding owing to the sudden burst of the natural dam, the people living along the banks of Chenab river downstream have been moved to safer places.
State Disaster Management Authority Director Sudesh Kumar Mokta said,” As per information received from local Panchyat Raj Institutions around 9:20 am, a massive landslide occurred near Nalda village that has obstructed the free flow of Chenab river.” He also said, As of now no loss of life or property has been reported in this incident.
