The Government of Assam has authorized India’s HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company to implement the PradhanMantriFasalBimaYojana (PMFBY) for loanee and non-loanee farmers in the districts of Cachar, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, and Tinsukia for the Rabi, 2023 season. The PMFBY scheme insures farmers against losses in crop yield arising from various external risks such as cyclones, hailstorms, inundations, cyclonic rains, unseasonal rains, cloud bursts, and fires due to natural causes.
The state government will conduct Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) to determine the loss in yield. If yield data is low, farmers will be considered to have suffered a shortfall in their yield, for which claims will be payable.
The scheme provides insurance cover for all stages of the crop cycle, including pre-sowing, harvesting, and post-harvest risks. Farmers can obtain insurance coverage through their respective banks, Common Service Centres, or authorized HDFC ERGO agents. The validity period for insurance cover details can be found on the Department of Agriculture’s website, and farmers can also self-enroll in the scheme through the Farmers App.
