GRP and BSF arrest eight in cross-border smuggling crackdown

Tripura Police, the Government Railway Police (GRP), and the Border Security Force (BSF) have apprehended eight individuals involved in illegal cross-border activities. The operation led to the arrest of five Indian touts and three Bangladeshi nationals for their roles in facilitating unauthorized border crossings.

According to Officer-in-Charge of the GRP, Tapas Das, the arrests were made late last night in the Narayanpur area near MBB Airport. The three Indian touts—Suklal Sarkar, Pradip Sarkar, and Biswajit Acharya—were apprehended after being on the run for some time. Das confirmed that these individuals were implicated in a human trafficking case, assisting Bangladeshi nationals in crossing the international border unlawfully.

The BSF reported that, on August 27, three Bangladeshi nationals were detained in the Kaiyadepha area of Sepahijala District while attempting to return to Bangladesh by breaching the border fence. Following the information provided by these detainees, a joint operation conducted by the BSF and Tripura Police on the morning of August 28 led to the arrest of two additional touts involved in facilitating these illegal activities.
