The Mizoram government is advocating for the restoration of democratic governance in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) by ending the imposition of Governor’s Rule, which was established on July 7 of the previous year. The ZPM legislature party had claimed the ability to form an executive committee comprising 16 out of 20 members of the council. Despite this, Governor’s Rule was enforced. A recent meeting of the Council of Ministers highlighted that, among the 20 members elected to the CADC, the same party remains capable of forming a stable government. The Council noted the absence of justifiable reasons for continuing Governor’s Rule, especially given the High Court’s previous directions encouraging efforts to establish a government. Consequently, the Council of Ministers expressed its belief that a stable government can indeed be formed in the CADC, emphasizing that the party’s strength has not changed even after the current term of Governor’s Rule has expired. The CADC comprises a total of 24 Members of District Council (MDCs), with 20 elected and 4 nominated by the Governor.
