Godrej Agrovet organized first edition of its ‘Women in Agriculture’ summit

Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) hosted the first edition of its ‘Women in Agriculture’ summit, aiming to celebrate women in India’s agricultural sector. The summit aimed to bring together diverse perspectives and engage in thought-provoking conversations to address the pivotal role of women in the sector. In India, 86.1 million women, accounting for 60% of all female workers, are employed in agriculture, with the percentage of women relying on agriculture for their livelihood as high as 84% in rural India. However, women continue to be outnumbered in agri-businesses across positions.

The summit aimed to shed light on the crucial yet often overlooked role of women in Indian agriculture. The panel discussion focused on enhancing employability for women in the agri-food sector, addressing skill gaps, and developing and advancing women in leadership roles.

Commenting on the summit and initiative taken by the company, Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of GAVL, emphasized the need to create an eco-system that thrives to promote women not only on farm fields but also in agri-businesses, providing them with the necessary knowledge, infrastructure, and support to enhance the overall agricultural output of the country.
