Gaurav Gogoi, newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and current Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to formally assume charge on June 3, 2025, in Guwahati. The event will be marked by a public function at the Manvendra Sharma Complex, where senior Congress leaders and party workers are expected to gather in large numbers.
In preparation for this significant transition in state party leadership, the Assam Congress held an internal strategy meeting at Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati, with active participation from senior leaders, including APCC Working President Zakir Hussain Sikdar and General Secretary Bipul Gogoi. They briefed the media on Gogoi’s itinerary and upcoming engagements leading to his official swearing-in.
The tour, designed to re-energize the Congress rank and file across Assam, will begin on May 31. Gogoi will arrive in Jorhat from New Delhi and interact with local Congress workers and the general public. The following day, June 1, he will attend a meeting in Nazira, hosted by Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, and will stay overnight in Sivasagar, a historically significant Congress stronghold.
On June 2, Gogoi is scheduled to travel by road to Nagaon, stopping en route at Jorhat and Golaghat to meet party supporters and hold public interactions. The journey aims to foster direct engagement with grassroots members and lay the groundwork for organizational revival ahead of the next electoral battle.
Gogoi’s ascension to the state Congress leadership comes at a crucial juncture, as the party seeks to reclaim political ground in Assam after recent electoral setbacks. Known for his articulate presence in Parliament and active participation in national debates, Gogoi brings with him both experience and youthful energy.
In a video message shared on social media, the APCC President-designate appealed to the people of Assam to “join the Congress in building a state free from fear and corruption.” He reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of all communities and promoting inclusive development.
