Fuel prices in India hike for the 28th time since May

Petrol and diesel prices in India hiked again on Sunday, witnessing a trend of record highs in fuel prices. In Delhi, petrol was hiked by 29 paise and diesel by 27 paise. With this, a litre of petrol now costs Rs 97.22 in the national capital and diesel is retailing at Rs 87.97 per litre.

With the latest revision by the state-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMC), the fuel rates have hiked for the 28th time since May 4. In Mumbai, petrol stood at Rs 103.36 per litre and diesel was priced at Rs 95.44 per litre. The fuel rates dropped slightly on Saturday in the financial capital. Among other metro cities, a litre of petrol and diesel in Kolkata now costs Rs 97.12 and Rs 90.82 respectively.

Petrol and diesel rates in major Indian cities

Witnessing an upward trajectory, petrol has breached the Rs 100 mark in at least seven states and union territories, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Ladakh.

In May, Bhopal became the first capital in the country where the price of petrol crossed the Rs 100 mark, followed by Jaipur. As of today, petrol is priced at Rs 105.33 per litre in Bhopal, while it costs Rs 103.88 in Jaipur.

In addition to this, in Patna and Thiruvananthapuram, petrol prices are now nearing the Rs 100 mark. It currently stands at Rs 99.20 per litre in Thiruvananthapuram and at Rs 99.28 per litre in Patna.
