France Tests Shorter Work Weeks to Improve Mental Health

France has launched a pilot program allowing public sector workers in several regions to work four days a week without a pay cut. The move aims to boost mental health, work-life balance, and productivity.

So far, response from workers has been overwhelmingly positive. “I feel more rested and efficient,” said Claire Dubois, a government employee in Lyon.

The policy is being watched closely in countries like the UK and USA, and it’s sparking conversations in India’s private sector about modernizing work culture. Bhutan, which already measures Gross National Happiness, could also explore similar work-life initiatives.
