Mizoram observed the foundation day of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura on January 29, 2025, with a special ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan. The event was part of the Union Government’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, which seeks to promote national unity and cultural understanding across states. While the foundation day of these three northeastern states is officially celebrated on January 21, the event in Mizoram was held today due to certain circumstances. In his opening remarks, Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) VK Singh (Retd) extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura. He highlighted the significance of celebrating the foundation days of other states as part of the broader Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, which helps showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen the nation’s unity.
Governor Singh also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Vikshit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047, stressing the critical role the northeastern states play in achieving this goal. “The Northeast States, surrounded by countries in political turmoil, hold great strategic importance. At this time, we must work towards national integration with deep commitment. It is only through peace and stability that development can be sustained,” he said. The Governor urged the audience to continue fostering unity and understanding across states, appreciating the diverse cultures that make India unique. He encouraged the younger generation to remain engaged and carry forward a cosmopolitan outlook, essential for building a harmonious nation. The event also featured speeches by representatives from the three states: Dr. Rebecca Angom, Associate Professor at Pachhunga University College (PUC) representing Manipur, Premika Blah, Chief Manager at SBI representing Meghalaya, and Dr. Achinta Badya, Assistant Professor at Mizoram University (MZU) representing Tripura.
A series of cultural performances were also presented by students from the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), Aizawl, who belong to the three states. The students showcased their rich cultural heritage through vibrant traditional dances and songs, adding to the festive atmosphere. The ceremony also included video messages from the Governors of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura, who shared their greetings and spoke about the importance of national unity and the integral role of the Northeast in India’s progress.
