A helicopter crashed on Friday in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon city killing the pilot on the spot. The co-pilot of the chopper sustained injuries in the crash. According to reports, police and local authorities have reached the spot.
A flight instructor was killed and a student injured when their two-seater training aircraft crashed in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Friday.
The aircraft belonged to the Academy of Aviation Shirpur in Dhule district. Captain Nurul Amen (28) had taken off with his trainee Anshika Gurjar (22) for a training sortie from the academy’s airstrip at around 3 pm. However, the Tecnam two-seater plane came crashing down near Wardi village in Chopda area of the Satpura mountain range at around 3.45 pm, Academy Director Air Commodore Hitesh Patel (retd) told PTI.
While Captain Nurul Amen died on the spot, Anshika was injured and taken to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital.
Air Commodore Patel said the training plane was scheduled to return in two and a half hours after traversing the over 200 nautical miles distance between Shirpur and Shegaon.
The reason behind the crash is not known yet.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condoled the death of the pilot and said an investigation team was being rushed to the site of the crash. “Shocked to hear about the tragic crash of a training aircraft that belonged to the NMIMS Academy of Aviation, Maharashtra. An investigation team is being rushed to the site,” the minister tweeted.
The incident took place near Wardi village in the district’s Chopda area which is part of the Satpura mountain ranges, and information was received by authorities around 5.15 pm.
“One occupant was declared dead on arrival by hospital authorities while the second person has sustained injuries,” he said. One of the occupants was a woman but it was not yet clear who was piloting the aircraft, police said.
