Fire breaks out in buildings of business park in Thane’s Kapurbawadi

A major fire broke out at a commercial complex in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Wednesday morning and was brought under control after 10 hours, officials said.

Thane Municipal Corporation Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Avinash Sawant said at least 15 cars parked in the building were burnt and many offices were destroyed.

He said that no casualty was reported.

The fire broke out around 8.30 pm on Tuesday at the ground-plus-five-story Orion Business Park building, which houses around 90 shops and offices, including a private blood bank, and is located next to Cine Wonder Mall on Ghodbunder Road, officials said.

The massive fire could be seen from far away and residents of nearby areas reported hearing some explosions.

16 fire engines and water tankers and snorkel ladders from Thane and nearby towns were pressed into service, Sawant said.

He said the firemen and RDMC team members made relentless efforts throughout the night and the fire was brought under control around 6:30 am on Wednesday.

Senior citizens and police officials were present at the spot for supervision.

The fire tenders that joined the Thane contingent were from neighboring Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Meera Bhainder and the Ministry of Defence, Sawant said.

The official said that the cause of the fire is under investigation. PTI COR GK
