Father And Son Magician Get A Standing Ovation From SPOOKED Simon Cowell
We’ve seen plenty of magic acts on Britain’s Got Talent, but James and Dylan Piper are something special. The father and son teamed up earlier this season for an incredible routine that left judge Simon Cowell with his jaw on the floor.
The act was made even more meaningful because it ended up involving Simon’s son Eric, who was present in the studio while the show was being filmed. It led to a sweet father-son moment.
James started the routine by asking Simon to choose an item from his son Dylan’s birthday wishlist. After that, he had Simon write the name of his son Eric on a playing card he had chosen, which James then made disappear.
That’s when Dylan showed up, surprising Britain’s Got Talent judges by appearing in the audience holding a wallet that contained Simon’s card. But that wasn’t all. With the help of Dylan’s brother Joseph, they revealed the name of Simon’s card (the five of hearts) on a sign which had been sitting on stage.
It turned out there was a hidden message in the way those words were written which paid tribute to Simon and his son Eric. But Simon’s mind was really blown when he shared the item he had chosen from Dylan’s wishlist (a jet ski), only to discover a photo of him and Eric riding a jet ski on the other side of the sign.
It was obvious from Simon’s face that James and Dylan’s performance on Britain’s Got Talent blew him away. When it was over, he called his son Eric up to the judges’ table to sit with him. Simon called the act “really, really special.”
“I love the fact it was a family affair, and everything linked in to him and I,” he said. “I liked the presentation. A really, really great audition from all of you.”
Amanda Holden called it a “fabulous audition,” saying she loved the father-son relationship on display. Alesha Dixon said it was “really emotional and just lovely.” David Walliams went as far as to call the audition “spine-tingling.”
All four judges voted “yes” to send the act through to the next round, and Simon added that they actually had five “yes” votes, because Eric approved of the act as well.
