Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, launched the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) in Tripura, aiming to revolutionize cooking practices with sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. As part of the initiative, 2,000 induction cooktops will be distributed to Anganwadi Centres across the state in collaboration with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) and with support from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
The launch event, attended by Tripura Power Minister Shri Ratan Lal Nath and senior officials from EESL and TSECL, highlighted the health and environmental benefits of transitioning from traditional biomass-based cooking to clean electric cooking. Induction cooktops, which offer a 25-30% cost advantage, promise a healthier and safer working environment for Anganwadi workers.
Agartala, a key economic hub in Tripura, is expected to see a ripple effect from the initiative as households and local vendors adapt to eco-friendly cooking practices. This shift could spur demand for electric cooking devices, opening avenues for retailers and boosting local economic activity.
EESL CEO Shri Vishal Kapoor remarked, “This initiative underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability, empowering communities with cleaner cooking alternatives.” The program aligns with Tripura’s vision for a greener future while reducing public health risks and environmental damage nationwide.
