The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned eight senior police officers of West Bengal to New Delhi for questioning in the coal smuggling case, officers stated on Thursday.
Among the IPS officers summoned through the central agency were Gnanavant Singh (ADG, CID), Koteshwara Rao, S Selvamurugan, Shyam Singh, Rajeev Mishra, Sukesh Kumar Jain and Tathagata Basu, they said.
They added that the IPS officers have earlier been given specific dates to appear at the ED’s New Delhi office.
“These IPS officers played an essential role in the coal smuggling case. There is evidence that these officials benefited from the scam. All of them were posted in the vicinity where the smuggling took place,” said the ED professional.
Seven of these eight officers have been summoned with useful resources required by the ED to remain closed for 12 months.
