DRI seizes ₹9.72 crore worth of meth in Mizoram, 1 arrested

In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mizoram, seized methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹9.72 crore and arrested one individual in Aizawl district. The bust occurred on May 30 near Seling, where DRI officials intercepted a vehicle and discovered 10 packets of methamphetamine tablets—totaling 9.72 kg—hidden in a concealed compartment beneath the rear seat. Both the vehicle and the contraband were seized under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment was smuggled into Mizoram from Myanmar via the Zokhawthar route, highlighting persistent trafficking activity across the porous Indo-Myanmar border. The banned stimulant, commonly referred to as the “crazy drug,” has been a growing concern in the Northeast. According to officials, the DRI has seized narcotics worth over ₹72 crore in Mizoram since January and arrested seven people in separate operations.

Additionally, the state excise department reported recovering 26.4 kg of heroin, 67.1 kg of meth tablets, 48 kg of crystal meth, 132.9 kg of ganja, and 945 grams of opium between January and May 26, signaling intensified anti-drug efforts in the region.
