Chief Minister and Ex- Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma, the health sector of Assam has been able to achieve a complete novelty along with winning the faith of the patients and their families alike. Its because of his futuristic plans that there has been a profound improvement in the health care infrastructure of our state. This was stated by the CMD of Health City Hospital, Khanapara, Guwahati in an event where the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the second ultramodern radiotherapy unit in the cancer care centre of the hospital. Dr. Das also mentioned that as an able successor of the present CM, the current health and family welfare minister Shri Keshab Mahanta is also doing his best to implement the path breaking schemes for the improvement of health sector in the state.
Dr. Das has expressed his gratitude towards the CM and the Health and Family Welfare minister for taking part in the inauguration of the radiotherapy machine. Commenting on the rapid rise of cancer patients in Assam, Dr. Das said that amongst all the north eastern states, Assam accounts for the highest number of cancer cases. Mentioning a 2020 study data he said that out of 39 thousand cancer patients in the northeast, 29 thousand is from Assam only. By increasing the awareness about cancer, in a country like India, at least 2/3rd cancer patients can be diagnosed early and preventive measures can be taken accordingly. In the present times under the care of CM and the health minister good cancer care is available in the government sector also. He also said that keeping into account the increasing number of cancer patients in the northeast, an extensive cancer care centre has been established in Health City hospital with ultramodern infrastructure, where international level cancer care is being provided along with the availability of highly dependable world class PET-CT scan machine.
The services of one Truebeam radiotherapy unit is already running in this centre, but taking into account the high demand of the patients, a second highly sensitive Halcyon radiotherapy unit has been newly installed and is inaugurated today. Within a very short span of time Health City Cancer care centre has become self-sufficient for which innumerable patients has been able to take treatment and go home with satisfying experience. In a significant statement Dr. Das told that its possible to start cancer treatment with two days of diagnosis in Health City Hospital. Now-a-days, the tendency of our people to go out of state for treatment of many critical diseases including cancer has decreased many folds both in the government and private sector.
