Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Mizoram’s Kolasib district held a crucial meeting on May 10 to strengthen its Civil Defence preparedness. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Robert C Lalhmangaiha, focused on formulating a comprehensive District Civil Defence Action Plan.
The DC underscored the strategic importance of Kolasib, Mizoram’s second-most critical district after Aizawl, and highlighted the need for public cooperation and constant vigilance. “Despite our peaceful surroundings, we must remain alert and disciplined,” he said, urging people not to circulate sensitive information, especially regarding troop movements. Superintendent of Police David H Lalthangliana reiterated the importance of readiness under the Civil Defence Act, 1968. “The situation may be calm, but uncertainty demands preparedness,” he stated.
Key decisions included establishing control rooms, compiling a list of vehicles for emergency use, and drafting a detailed Civil Defence Action Plan. A district-wide air raid mock drill is scheduled for Monday night, with sirens at 8:59 PM and lights off until 9:04 PM. Vehicular movement will be halted during this period.
