Dibrugarh University student jumps from building

On Sunday, a student of Dibrugarh University jumped off the building due to alleged ragging by seniors.

Besides, the police arrested one accused and detained three people on Monday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma took to Twitter to note that it has been noticed that a student of Dibrugarh University has been injured due to alleged ragging. Close watch maintenance and follow up action coordinated with district administration. Efforts are on to nab the accused, the victim is being given medical attention. Appeal to students, say no to ragging.

He also said that he is monitoring the matter and coordinating with the district administration for follow-up measures. He urged the students to say ‘no’ to ragging.

The Dibrugarh SP said the student’s parents, Anand Sharma, had lodged a complaint of ragging by five people in a university hostel. After this, accused Niranjan Thakur was arrested and three others were detained, the SP added. He said, the condition of the injured is stable.
