Tripura Police have arrested three individuals, including two women, in Assam linked to the public assault of Prasenjit Sarkar, a 23-year-old delivery executive who later died by suicide. The accused, identified as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee (a schoolteacher), and Sourav Bhattacharjee, were apprehended in Sribhumi district with Assam Police’s assistance. They will be presented in court in Dharmanagar. Two additional suspects, Meghadeep Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar, are still at large.
The incident occurred on December 14, when Sarkar was allegedly attacked over a parcel delivery dispute, filmed, and shared online, causing him severe humiliation and psychological distress. His family claims the incident led to his suicide later that day, as he was the family’s sole breadwinner. Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha has promised a thorough investigation and justice. The incident has sparked protests statewide, with various political and social groups calling for urgent action and strict penalties for the accused.
