On Monday, contestants in the Miss AAPSU 2025 pageant cleared almost 1,700 kg of trash from a section of the Yagamso River within IG Park. With assistance from Itanagar Smart City, the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Miss All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) organizing team collaborated to plan the World Wildlife Day celebration. Khoda Yallam, the general secretary of the AAPSU Women Cell and the head of the Miss AAPSU organizing committee, spoke to the media at the cleanup site and emphasized the importance of experiential learning for the 28 competitors, who represent various tribes from Arunachal Pradesh.
“This initiative demonstrates our dedication to both cultural celebration and environmental responsibility, and it is also a vibrant prelude to the upcoming AAPSU inter-tribe festival,” she said. “These young women are more than just pageant hopefuls; they’re potential influencers who can reach communities across the state,” Yallam said, highlighting the significant platform beauty queens wield. By linking environmental preservation to this platform, we are demonstrating the connection between responsibility and beauty. Although it is a little endeavor, it demonstrates what we can accomplish as a team for our waterways.
AAPSU Art & Culture Secretary and YMCR Convenor Kanku Kabak thanked the Miss AAPSU team for their active participation and for making environmental awareness a top priority in this year’s competition.
