Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday undertook a comprehensive inspection of key development projects in several wards of Agartala under the Municipal Corporation, emphasizing the need to urgently address lingering civic issues like poor drainage and erratic water supply.
The review, which covered Wards 16, 20, and 32 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), forms part of the state government’s ongoing mission to upgrade urban infrastructure under the Smart City initiative. Dr. Saha was accompanied by senior officials from the AMC, Public Works Department (PWD), Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS), and Smart City Mission during the on-ground visits.
Kicking off his inspection from the Agartala Town Hall, the Chief Minister moved through multiple project sites across the city. While acknowledging the visible progress in construction and sanitation works, he did not shy away from pointing out critical gaps in services that continue to affect daily life in urban areas.
“I have come to Bardowali, right at the center of Agartala city. A lot of work has already been completed, but key concerns remain—drainage systems are still faulty in several places, water supply is inconsistent, and more attention is needed on cleaning local ponds and completing boundary walls,” Dr. Saha told reporters during the field visit.
Importantly, Bardowali is part of the Chief Minister’s own legislative constituency, adding political significance to the visit. Addressing the optics, he said, “While I represent the whole state, this inspection underscores my personal commitment to grassroots-level development. It’s important for people to see that their issues are being addressed from the ground up.”
Officials briefed the CM about completed and ongoing works related to roads, housing, and sanitation. Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of strong coordination between departments to resolve issues quickly. “We are inspecting everything, ward by ward. Today we’ve covered two and will go on to two more,” he added, signaling a systematic approach to oversight.
Speaking about public inconvenience due to ongoing construction, the Chief Minister asked citizens for patience and cooperation. “Development works naturally bring some temporary problems, but we are working closely with field officers to resolve them efficiently. The general mood among people is positive, and we request their continued support,” he said.
Drainage and water distribution have been long-standing issues in Agartala, especially during the monsoon season when clogged drains and waterlogging cause serious disruptions. Dr. Saha’s visit appears to be a proactive step in addressing public grievances ahead of the rains.
