CM Manik Saha calls for adopting ‘Gujarat Model’ to curb road deaths in Tripura

Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha instructed departments to implement the ‘Gujarat Model of road safety’ to achieve zero road fatalities in the state. This model emphasizes advanced technology, strict traffic law enforcement, and prompt post-accident medical care. In a high-level meeting, Saha acknowledged Tripura’s road accident rates are below the national average but stressed the need for continued vigilance. Measures to enhance pedestrian safety, including accelerated footpath construction and increased use of CCTV and traffic monitoring systems, were highlighted. The Chief Minister announced plans for additional trauma care centers and specialized training for police and fire services. He recognized the seasonal increase in accidents, especially during foggy mornings, and urged public awareness on road safety. The ‘National Road Safety Month’ and ‘Zero Fatality Month’ will occur from January 1 to January 31, aimed at promoting collective responsibility in reducing accidents.
