Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday visited disaster-affected areas in Serchhip, Buangpui, Thenzawl, and Neihloh to assess damage caused by heavy rains and landslides. The visit comes amid one of the worst natural calamities the state has seen in recent years.
Starting in Serchhip town, the Chief Minister inspected collapsed homes and met affected residents. He later visited Buangpui village, where he interacted with community leaders at the local community hall and assured them of prompt government relief and rehabilitation. Lalduhoma proceeded to Thenzawl and Neihloh, where he surveyed landslide-hit areas and spoke to displaced families. “Helping people in distress is a top priority of my government,” he said, promising food, shelter, and medical aid.
Since May 24, Mizoram has recorded 598 landslides, with Serchhip alone reporting 116. Thirteen houses in Serchhip have been damaged and over 20 families evacuated. Rainfall peaked on May 31 with 117.8 mm—1102% above normal.
