Chug Valley Welcomes Four Black-Necked Cranes in Arunachal Pradesh

Four black-necked cranes, comprising three adults and one juvenile, have been observed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Chug Valley, marking a first for the area. Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Darge highlighted this rare sighting, noting that past years saw only pairs or up to three cranes. It is suggested that one adult may be part of a previously separated pair, as recalled from an incident where a female crane was injured last winter. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the cranes’ safety from threats such as feral dogs and human disturbances, with support from local residents and officials. The increase in cranes is considered a positive ecological indicator for the region.
