The much-despised “zero COVID” strategy, which China has been implementing for more than three years and which has hampered its economic growth and sparked protests, was vehemently defended on Monday by the country’s new premier, Li Qiang, who claimed that the strategy was absolutely correct and produced extremely positive results.
Speaking at his first news conference, Li remarked that it was very surprising that China, a country with a large population, was able to make a smooth transition in the COVID-19 reaction and recover regular economic and social order in less than two months.
