China criticises Amit Shah, the interior minister, for visiting Arunachal Pradesh

China attacked India’s Home Minister Amit Shah’s trip to Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, claiming that it breached Chinese sovereignty over the region, a charge that India categorically refuted. On Monday, Home Minister Shah introduced the “Vibrant Villages Program” from Kibithoo, the easternmost village in India and a border settlement for Arunachal Pradesh. The renaming of various locations in Arunachal Pradesh was flatly rejected last week by India, who argued that the state is an intrinsic part of India and that giving “invented” names does not change this reality. India reacted when Beijing revealed the Chinese names for 11 more locations in Arunachal Pradesh that it claims to constitute Southern Tibet.
