Chief Minister prioritizes repairs on National Highway 306/6

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vanlalhlana is set to inspect the deteriorating stretch of National Highway 306/6 between Kawnpui and Khamrang, where stranded trucks have raised concerns due to the road’s poor condition. The decision follows a meeting with the Mizoram Truck Owners Association (MTOA) and Mizoram Truck Drivers Association (MTDA), who have urged the government to expedite repairs. During the meeting, the associations highlighted the challenges truck drivers face on the heavily damaged stretch. In response, Minister Vanlalhlana agreed to assess the situation personally, promising swift action to resolve the crisis.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has also addressed the issue, stating that the government is prioritizing highway repairs across the state, particularly the Kawnpui-Khamrang section. He announced the termination of the contract with Satguru Company, the previous highway maintenance contractor, and confirmed that the PWD has taken over the project to expedite repairs.

Meanwhile, the Kolasib District’s Chief Medical Officer has provided health checkups for the stranded drivers, and AMPEDA has offered food assistance. The government is working to restore essential transport services disrupted by the road conditions.
