A fresh case has been filed through the CBI in opposition to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and searches had been said at 16 locations – throughout several cities – on Friday morning. The case is associated to alleged corruption linked to recruitments when Lalu Yadav served as the union railways minister, officers said.
Delhi, Patna and Gopalganj have been among the places where the searches were on.
The 73-year-old leader was currently granted bail in the fifth fodder case in opposition to him. This used to be the last of the corruption instances linked to the fodder scam in which the RJD leader was once convicted and had obtained a bail. Soon after the bail, he used to be admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment, which delayed his return to Patna.
On Friday, a large police deployment was considered amid the CBI searches at residence of Rabri Devi, Lalu’s wife. He used to be the chief minister of Bihar between 1990 and 1997.
Shortly after the searches, RJD leaders launched demonstrations in opposition to the action.
“We had pleaded that he has served half of of his five-year sentence in this case. Prasad has already served 42 months in jail towards the half of sentence of 30 months. Though the CBI adverse the petition saying he is nevertheless to serve half of the sentence in this case, we had submitted the trial court’s licensed copy. The court docket has granted bail,” his lawyer, Prabhat Kumar, had said after he received the bail.
Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD chief’s son, had in the past linked the corruption instances to his father’s “fight towards the BJP”. “If Lalu ji would have shaken palms with the BJP, he would have been known as Raja Harishchandra, however these days he is battle in opposition to RSS- BJP. Hence, he is going through imprisonment. We will now not get scared,” he had said in February.
Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had backed him at the time, saying: “The key thing of BJP’s politics is that those who don’t bend earlier than it are persecuted in each and every way. Lalu Prasad Yadav is under assault due to the fact of this politics. I hope he receives justice.”
