Caracas Responds to US Blockade Threats by Deploying Navy to Protect Petroleum Exports

Escalating the risk of a direct maritime confrontation, the Venezuelan government has ordered its Navy to escort all tankers carrying petroleum products into and out of its ports. This move is a direct response to US President Donald Trump’s order for a “total and complete” naval blockade intended to intercept sanctioned vessels. Venezuela has denounced the US blockade as an “act of economic aggression” and a violation of international maritime norms.
