The Border Security Force (BSF) has significantly enhanced security measures along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, deploying cutting-edge surveillance technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras and facial recognition systems to curb infiltration and illegal activities. Patel Piyush Purushottam Das, Frontier Inspector General of BSF Tripura, announced the deployment of state-of-the-art AI-powered cameras along traditional patrolling routes to bolster border security.”We have implemented advanced AI surveillance tools and facial recognition technology to enhance our vigilance,” stated Das, highlighting the BSF’s proactive stance in combating crimes and thwarting infiltration attempts.
In addition to technological upgrades, the BSF has reinforced manpower in sensitive border areas and intensified offensive operations against smuggling and criminal networks. “We maintain zero tolerance towards illegal activities and have launched intelligence-driven operations to apprehend offenders,” Das affirmed. The heightened security measures follow directives from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to intensify border vigilance, prompting collaborative efforts between BSF, state police, and security agencies. These efforts aim to strengthen border fencing and deploy additional teams in critical areas.
Notably, BSF operations have yielded significant results, with seizures amounting to Rs 29 crore in contraband goods, including narcotics, and the arrest of 198 Bangladeshi nationals and 12 Rohingyas this year alone. Discussing bilateral efforts, BSF officials engaged in talks with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), sharing actionable intelligence and coordinating joint patrols. “Both forces are committed to identifying and securing vulnerable areas along the border,” Das affirmed, underscoring the importance of real-time information exchange for effective border management.
