In perhaps a first from an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United) supremo and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called for a probe to be initiated in the Pegasus case.
“A probe should be done, indeed. We have been hearing about telephone tapping for so many days, the matter should be discussed (in Parliament). People (Opposition) have been reiterating (for talks) for so many days, it should be done,” Bihar CM Nitish Kumar told media persons.
Addressing reporters in Patna, the JD(U) chief also echoed the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on the issue in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, the report added.
Earlier, West Bengal government had demanded a probe by the Centre and later set up a two-member inquiry commission to probe the Pegasus spyware row.
The panel will probe the “illegal hacking, tracking and recording of mobile phones in West Bengal,” Mamata Banerjee said.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she had set up the panel as the union government was “reluctant” to probe the Pegasus snooping row.
