Veteran Bengali filmmaker Tarun Majumder is ‘very critical’ after his fitness deteriorated on Wednesday night. He is admitted to SSKM Country Hospital in Kolkata. It has been almost a week now that he is being treated in the hospital for kidney and heart related problems.
The 92-year-old director is being closely monitored by a team of doctors. Tarun Majumdar made his debut as a solo director in the film industry in 1985 with Vasant Chowdhury in Alor Pipasha. Earlier, his works were credited under Yatrik – the group of filmmakers who protected Tarun Majumdar, Dilip Mukherjee and Sachin Mukherjee. Jatrik separated in 1963.
Some of Tarun Majumdar’s notable works include Balika Badhu (1976), Kuheli (1971), Sriman Prithviraj (1972), Dadar Keerti (1980), Smriti Tuku Thak (1960), Palatak (1963) and Ganadevta (1978). Also, he has worked with notable actors like Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Bichar Biswas, Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy and many more.
Tarun Majumdar received the Padma Shri in 1990 and won five Filmfare Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
