Bangladeshi nationals nabbed in Belonia for illegal entry

A local court in Tripura’s Belonia has remanded seven Bangladeshi nationals to 12 days of judicial custody after they were arrested for illegally crossing the India-Bangladesh international border late Saturday night. According to police sources, the individuals entered Indian territory through the Amjad Nagar area near Belonia in South Tripura district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team led by Belonia Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rishabh and Officer-in-Charge of Belonia Police Station Shibu Ranjan Dey intercepted a Maruti Eco vehicle at the Manurmukh Tabla Chowmuhoni checkpoint.

Upon inspection, seven individuals were detained. During preliminary interrogation, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals and admitted to entering India with the help of a middleman in exchange for money. The accused have been identified as Robin Hossain (29), Mohammad Rafi (25), Amjad Hossain (27), Shahidur Jjaman (28), Fazzal (24), Rehan Mollah (21), and Gias Uddin (35).

Police seized seven Android phones, one keypad phone, ₹1.64 lakh in Indian currency, and 1,01,935 Bangladeshi Taka from their possession. While police sought remand, the court directed judicial custody for further investigation.
