Bandhan Bank has identified Assam as an important state in which it plans to accelerate its developmental work further. Bandhan has been engaged with communities in Assam through its developmental projects since 2007. Over this period, it has reached out to around 2.5-lakh people and tried to make their lives better.
Bandhan Bank has its roots in the eastern part of the country. Through its implementing agency, Bandhan-Konnagar, it is committed to expand its societal initiatives and focus on enhancing livelihood promotion, health, education and employment generation. Through its development programmes, Bandhan Bank aims to transform the lives of those at the bottom-of-the-pyramid, to make them financially literate, self-sufficient and independent. Bandhan-Konnagar’s programme called Targeting the Hardcore Poor (THP) is uniquely designed for the poorest of the poor. Through the THP programme, Bandhan Bank improved the lives of more than 10,000 women in Assam so far. Bandhan Health Programme has strived to ensure health and wellness for 1,10,000 people in Assam through the tireless and uninterrupted efforts of 2,400 Swastha Sahayikas and 550 staff members. To impart free education to village children, Bandhan has been running non-formal primary schools in seven districts of Assam under the Bandhan Education Programme. Nearly 17,000 students in Assam have received the benefits of this programme completely free of cost.
